What's this all about?
My name is Abby Tompkins and I am a senior accounting major at Oklahoma State University. Throughout my Composition II class this semester, I have been assigned numerous assignments that require research into my field of study. My field of study is accounting, which can be a little cut and dry. However, I chose to focus in on auditing because that it what I want to do with my degree. I found a lot of interesting information that gave me a new perspective on accounting. This website is a compilation of all my research, and provides information on the various aspects of auditing. My hopes are that you enjoy my website and learn something new!
Do audits prove to be significant to a company, and are they worth the time and money put in by auditors and spent by companies? Auditors will say yes, of course, because it is their profession. However, companies, both large and local, might argue that audits are not necessary or not important to the organization. Many companies fear audits because of the close scrutiny it undergoes and the consequences it may face if errors are found. Historically, audits have ruined companies and accounting firms, as well as their reputations. Today, audits prove to be important as ever in order to create lucidity in the business world. It is an auditor’s job to stop financial crimes within an organization, and audits demonstrate to be essential reasons for a company staying in business. Auditing is crucial to a company’s survival; therefore auditors need to continually improve their practices through various means set forth by both the accounting firm and the companies being audited.
